Kinder Kicks - Our Kinder Kicks class is a fun and exciting introduction to the world of Taekwondo. WHAT IS HAPKIDO?
Hapkido is a discipline of coordination, a way of strengthening the mind and body, of fusing the individuals physical and mental powers so that he or she will emerge as a more fully integrated human being.
The word in fact means; Method or Way (DO) for the coordination Harmony (HAP) of mental Energy or spirit (KI). One should always try to avoid violence, but if someone grabs you, attempts to strike you, or physically assaults you in any way, it has escalated beyond words, and you are left with the only option which is to defend.
The Korean Art of Self Defense, Hapkido is considered a "soft" style of Martial Art, as opposed to "hard" styles that practice the use of force against force, making the outcome a simple matter of size and strength. The Hapkido practitioner diverts or suppresses an attacker's flow of energy peacefully, this diversion allows him to use the attackers power against himself leading to the attackers defeat. Through the use of pressure on certain skeletal joints and pressure points, very little strength is needed to overcome an opponent.
Hap Ki Do not only redirects the attack, but turns it back against the attacker and follows through with offensive techniques which may control his violence or render him incapable of further actions.
The Hapkido practitioner is in complete control of the confrontation defusing the aggression without the need for uncontrolled damage as seen in many "hard" styles. Hap Ki Do provides complete physical conditioning which improves balance, posture, flexibility, timing, quickness, muscle tone, joint strength and most importantly, confidence through physical and mental discipline.
The immediate aim of Hapkido is of course the welfare of the one practicing it. Not only will skills in self-defense be attained, but more importantly will be the focus on an individuals character development. Our new kickboxing Class this is an excellent form of exercise that is sweeping the country, getting both men and women who want more than just aerobic classes into the gym and (literally) kicking up their heels! kickboxing is a OUTSTANDING way of exercise that combines the kicking of Taekwondo with the punching and jabbing of boxing. You don’t have to be really coordinated, as there isn’t a lot of choreography involved. You simply follow the instructor lead to kick, punch or jab in time to music.
BENEFITS
What are the benefits? Well, it’s a great calorie burner. The American Council on Exercise (ACE) estimates that a one hour kickboxing class burns approximately 350 to 450 calories per hour! In addition, Kickboxing is a good stress reliever – you can picture anyone you want on the receiving end of your kicks and jabs! It also increases your cardiovascular conditioning, tones muscles and increases flexibility.
It’s a great workout, and you’ll feel the results both during the workout and afterwards. Basic moves involve the arms (punching, jabbing, hooks and upper cuts) and legs (front and rear kicks, lunges, knee lifts and jogging in place). You can also expect to do a lot of jumping jacks and shuffling back and forth and hitting the heavy bag in our classes.
You’ll see both men and women of all ages in these classes. Fancy spandex outfits aren’t needed; just wear Taekwondo kicking shoes and comfortable shorts or Taekwondo pants and a tee-shirt. Good Taekwondo shoes with sturdy soles are important to absorb the impact of bouncing, kicking and shuffling repeatedly. You should also bring a towel because you’re going to sweat, and a big water bottle to prevent dehydration!
On your first visit to our kickboxing class, you should tell the instructor it’s your first time. This will cue them to help you with some of the moves and give a little more instruction. (Instruction classes or scheduled the 3 rd Saturday of each month). Don’t be self-conscious about being new; very few people can do all of the moves perfectly. It is important, though, that you pay attention to the instructor’s cues and directions. If you’re looking to integrate some cardiovascular exercise into your regime, or add a change of pace to your current exercise routine, give our kickboxing program a try. It’s a fun way to get a good workout and doesn’t require a high level of dance coordination. And most importantly, it’s a fun way to burn a lot of calories, and feel good about yourself. So grab your Taekwondo shoes and water bottle, and give kick boxing a try!

MAA Taekwondo University’s Mastership Program inspires students with specific instruction onhow to live healthier, how to exercise and how to build energy and a dynamic spirit. Statistics tell us that 1/3 of all children are obese and that fully 2/3 are overweight and at risk of preventable health challenges that could lead to early death. Most children are less active than previous generations and spend too much time on the computer or playing video games. They barely even have a structured gym class in school. Combine the lack of activity with the ease of fast foods and the junk that kids can easily become addicted to, and it's easy to see why our nation is creating kids at risk. Our Mastership program will get the entire family in the best shape oftheir lives. We'll increase their flexibility, strengthen and tone their muscles and give them greater endurance. All while they are having fun and learning valuable life skills and weapons training that will carry over to becoming successful adults. The Junior Instructor Training prepares the student for the Certified Instructor Training and is designed for
students 5-12 years of age. The students are carefully selected to fill a potential space in our “Excellence in Leadership – JIT” program this year. The goal of this program is to help further develop your abilities in the areas of communication skills, leadership skills, and teaching procedures and of course your martial arts skills. Regardless of your future career direction, this course will be of great benefit to you and your leadership skills!
The program is outlined as follows but are not limited to:
- Communications Shills = The 9 Essential Components to a Great Handshake etc.
- Leadership Skills = Confidence, Self-Esteem, Goal Setting, Patience, Strategy etc.
- Teaching Procedures = Proper Etiquette, Lining Up, Warm Up and Stretching etc.
- Martial Arts Skills = Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Martial Arts Skills Including
Advanced Weapons Training etc.
Instructors in Training go through a rigorous curriculum that will develop you physically, mentally and emotionally, and, gives you a degree in the following three areas through our Certified Instructor Training as follows:
1. Certified Martial Arts Degree (physical & mental training, including all cross training)
2. Certified Business Degree (communication, time management & business development)
3. Certified Instructor Degree (hands on teaching and instruction)
This program is designed for students 13 years and older. The instructors must have a
minimum training time of at least 300 hours of hands on experience and classroom prior to
taking the test to become certified. As well as becoming certified they must continue their
training and furthering their education with Master Richards on a weekly basis also consisting of
another 300 hours per year which in turn will give them the opportunity to develop themselves as
a professional martial artist.
Certified Instructors with successful completion are guaranteed job placement opportunities in
which your earnings potential is unlimited, and, the next step in being placed into the Career
Development Program.
Certified Instructors who successfully complete the CIT program are once again hand selected by the Master Council and given the opportunity to develop themselves at a level of becoming a professional martial artist as their career as follows:
1. Certified Masters Martial Arts Degree (physical & mental training, including all cross training and certification as a pro).
2. Certified Masters Business Degree (communication, time management, business development and personal development for the instruction of your juniors).
3. Certified Masters Instructor Degree (hands on teaching and instruction including development of Instructors within own University and Masters martial arts degree).
